The Port au Port Peninsula has two Wikipedia histories—and neither should be accepted without checking the receipts. The English page combines Breton, Basque, French, Mi’kmaq, and Acadian history with a dubious Thirty Years’ War claim, a spectacular but poorly defined oil estimate, stale Shoal Point promises, and a proposed hydrogen megaproject. The French page tells a different story, foregrounding Saint-Malo fishermen, the French Shore, Acadian settlement, and Francophone identity while quietly introducing its own unsupported medieval claims.
